Which codes apply in the UAE
Dubai Building Code (DBC), 2021 Edition. Issued by Dubai Municipality under Decree No. (45) of 2021 and in force from 30 December 2021, the DBC unifies design rules that were previously spread across several Dubai authorities into one code. It sets minimum requirements across parts covering architecture, accessibility, building envelope, structure, and more, and it references the International Building Code (IBC) alongside British and European standards.
Abu Dhabi International Building Code (ADIBC), 2013 Edition. Administered by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) and mandatory since 1 October 2014, the ADIBC is based on the 2009 International Building Code, adapted for local conditions. Abu Dhabi also runs the Estidama Pearl Rating System for sustainability, and Dubai runs Al Sa'fat.
UAE Fire and Life Safety Code of Practice. Issued by UAE Civil Defence, this is the national fire and life safety reference applied across the emirates.
